Gas vs. Battery mowers – what's your take???

I’ve been using a battery-powered Ryobi mower for a while now, but these batteries keep dying on me. Replaced them once, but they don’t last as long as they should. I’m thinking of switching back to gas. What do y’all think? Gas mowers might need more upkeep, but they seem to last longer, right? Anyone else been through this?

Are you buying the official batteries or generics? Gas would be fine provided you are doing winter maintenance properly.

There’s a few things that you can do to extend battery life.

  1. Raise your HOC
  2. Increase mowing frequency
  3. Sharpen blades more often
  4. Use plant growth regulator
Lastly, you can get higher amp hour battery. It looks like Ryobi has some 12.0 Ah batteries.

Yeah, battery mowers are nice for quiet and low-maintenance stuff, but if you're mowing bigger yards and the batteries keep dying, it gets old fast. Most people who switch back to gas say it feels more reliable for longer runtimes and tough grass - you just gotta deal with oil, gas, and a little maintenance.

So if runtime is driving you nuts, gas is probably worth it. If you ever go back to battery, just be ready to grab an extra battery too.
